TES are currently providing and installing a Froling 320kw Biomass boiler to this project. The project mechanical consultants Delap and Waller in conjunction with main contractor Pierce chose TES to provide the biomass section of the renewable energy equipment being used on the project. The boiler has been delivered and placed in position and is awaiting full commissioning in Autumn 2008.

Young's Garage Kilkenny

TES were chosen by Rotary ME to supply and install the wood pellet boiler planned for the new Land Rover/Opel Garage in Kilkenny city owned and operated by the Young Family.

The TES design team selected a KWB 100KW Multifire Boiler as the chosen boiler for the project. A 1,500 litre fully insulated buffer vessel was chosen to provide thermal storage and to allow efficient balancing of the heat load.

The boiler was delivered to site in the autumn of 2007 and was assembled and put into position by fully trained TES technicians. The pipework connecting the boiler to the client system was then completed by Rotary ME personnel.

In December 2007 the building required heat and TES returned to site to commission the boiler.

Mr. David Young of Young’s Motors states that “I am delighted with the project provided by TES. My major concern was the operation of the wood pellet boiler and TES has ensured that this has way exceeded my best expectations.

TES provided a tremendous service from supply and commissioning of the boiler to dealing with the grant application with Sustainable Energy Ireland”.

Mr. Jim Healy of Rotary ME stated that “TES supplied, assembled and commissioned the wood pellet on time and within budget. Also their experience in the operation of wood pellet boilers was paramount to ensuring the different trades on site who had no experience of wood pellet technology had no difficulties”

Edmund Rice Heritage Centre

In the winter of 2007 TES worked together with the Board of Directors of Edmund Rice International Heritage Centres in Mount Sion Waterford to design a Biomass Renewable Energy Project for the Centre.

The new centre in Waterford dedicated to Edmund Rice, founder of the Christian and Presentation Brothers, is to become one of the country’s premier ecclesiastical and heritage tourism sites.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern cut the ribbon at the new Edmund Rice International Heritage Centre on the historic Mount Sion site on Barrack Street, Waterford on February 8th. The centre is expected to draw Irish and overseas visitors and is the first major refurbishment of the site since the beatification of Blessed Edmund by Pope John Paul II in 1996.

The mortal remains of the Founder of the Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers rest at Mount Sion and it is the principal site for the veneration of his relics. It is also where Edmund Rice established his first community and school in 1802. The new Edmund Rice Chapel with the founder’s tomb as a centre-piece is now complete.

The new heritage centre will allow visitors to ‘live the Edmund Rice story’ through an atmospheric and interactive walk-through museum which will take them back in time to 18th century Waterford, visit a 19th century school-room and see personal items associated with the businessman who went on to found two congregations which are still meeting the needs of the poor in 35 countries around the globe. The centre is housed in some of the period buildings at Mount Sion, including the former chapel and band-room, dating back to the early 19th century.

The new centre charts the history and global missionary outreach of the Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers over the past 200 years. The museum will also reflect the social changes in Ireland since the beginning of the 19th century and will showcase some of the current developments and changes in the life and work of the Brothers and of the Edmund Rice Network in 26 countries throughout the world.

The new Edmund Rice chapel will continue to be available and accessible to the local community. Stained glass panels from the windows of the demolished 1970s building have been incorporated in the new stone-faced circular chapel which has a free-standing square natural slate roof. The chapel’s design takes full advantage of the dramatic vista of Waterford city spread out between Mount Sion and the River Suir.

The present community on Barrack Street comprises four Christian and one Presentation Brother. They are currently offering initiatives in youth ministry and the provision of an Information and Support Unit (ISU) for refugees, asylum seekers and recent arrivals in Ireland.

The heritage centre is also home to the Nagle Centre which provides IT training to the local community. The Mt Sion primary and secondary schools are also on the site.

The main contractor on the €6m project was Tom O Brien Ltd with Murphy and Kelly Ltd appointed as Mechanical Contractors. TES was appointed by the Board of Directors to provide the renewable energy element of the project. The decision was made to build an Energy Centre consisting of the existing plant room holding all pipework, thermal storage and controls required for the installation and incorporating a purpose built wood chip store.

A KWB TDS 150kw Wood Chip Boiler was chosen to be the installed boiler. These boilers are manufactured in Austria and have developed to be state of the art providers of wood fired boiler technology. The boiler was installed in tandem with a 2,000 litre fully insulated buffer vessel acting as thermal storage. This allows the heat store to act as a buffer between the relatively slower response time of a wood chip boiler and the more rapid load changes of a typical heating system. The buffer vessel also acts as an energy store to provide maximum output at start up.

Mr Barry O Brien CEO of the Centre stated that “Once we made the decision to follow the ethos of Edmund Rice and use renewable natural energy in the form of biomass in our project we could not be happier with our choice of partner TES. Jim Dudley and his team involved themselves totally in the overall project which had a very tight deadline. The boiler was delivered, assembled and put into operation on schedule and without any on site difficulties. It provides very cost effective heating and TES provide us with fuel, service and maintenance on a metered contract basis ”
